Comfort and Joy
We are reminded time and time again that it takes courage to make an appointment. When a crisis happens we generally either reach out or we retreat in. It is a turning point. We can go in either direction. We can use it as an opportunity to move toward growth, enrichment, improvement or we can get stuck in despair and live in pain.
A crisis is really just one step away from trauma. We begin to feel like we just can’t handle something and find that we are unable to think it through. These moments of despair or opportunity often occur at a time of transition or when we’ve experienced a loss or even a perceived loss. Symptoms of stress and grief, extreme discomfort and irrational thinking accumulate at a time such as this given our lowered efficiency and impede our decision making and generally stifle our zest for life.
A common feeling is that we think we are going crazy!?!
We have found that it’s better to Go NUTS together and find a way forward. A crisis is an opportunity for change. Often when we are at our lowest point and the pain is overwhelming, many of us are motivated to cry out for help. It takes courage to reach out. Counselling is about helping to bring about positive change. Our needs vary but we all want and need to feel good. It’s helpful to remember that it’s ok to not feel ok, that help is available and we don’t need to struggle alone. We can reach out and get the support that we all need in our lives.
As the year winds up may we all choose to experience some ‘Comfort and Joy’.
