Need to reorientate?
Today is the last day of November and this means that the first day of the month begins tomorrow. No kidding, it’s the same way every month of the year. Yes, but this is the last month of the year! How do we feel about that?
Countless clients have commented on the fact that they feel under pressure. They have this sense that everything needs to be done, sorted, worked out, finished and tidied up before the end of the year. They feel anxious and apprehensive about how to make it happen ‘cause if they don’t then something bad will happen? This foreboding feeling of negative anticipation can be caused by stress. We lead busy lives and at this time of year things ramp up with the anticipation of Christmas and things are winding up for the holiday season. We need to reorientate.
At anytime of life and especially when we are under pressure it’s good to stop and take several deep breaths and to enjoy some sunshine. Slowing our breathing down can calm us. It relaxes our brains and can help us take stock, to slow down and to find some clarity. Taking a moment in the sun allows endorphins to flood our system and this helps us to feel good. It doesn’t change what we may need to do but it can change our attitude and also enhance our ability to do it better, with less angst and more enthusiasm.
It’s one thing to know and another thing to do that which is helpful to us. We need to take responsibility for our well being and challenge ourselves to apply some self care. Then, just maybe, we will still get things done with less nervous energy, we will stay in the moment and not worry as much and be able to deal with one thing at a time. So, take 3 deep breaths and spend a few moments in the sun and let your brain and your good feeling reorientate and lead you to whatever comes next.
